VERONICA’S STORY
Veronica Fynn is a Liberian national, studying at
the University of British Columbia. As a survivor of the Liberian
Civil War, Veronica saw first hand, the terrible things that
happened in her country - the amputation of limbs from missiles,
mothers giving birth en route to a far away midwife, corpses
splattering around from the iron hands of rebel leaders and other
atrocities associated with war. Since she separated from her family
in 1994, Veronica has seen what it is to struggle in life as a young
female refugee but yet succeed with determination and perseverance.
Despite her traumatic past, Veronica has pledged to
be loyal to her country, continent and people in whatever way
possible. Since arriving at the University of British Columbia in
August 2001, Veronica has initiated AFRICA
AWARENESS, a series of lectures, seminars
and roundtable discussions used as a platform to educate
students, faculty and staff at the University of British Columbia
and the community at large, about Africa. AFRICA AWARENESS
speaks to the diversity, lushness and great contribution of
the continent of Africa in the development of our world
today. In 2004, AFRICA
AWARENESS is focusing on the positive aspects of the
continent from a critical perspective.
Veronica is also spearheading a fundraising
campaign to raise funds for buying educational materials for
CHILDREN (especially girls)
affected by the war in Liberia. You can
assist in that regard by purchasing framable WILDLIFE
ART CARDS through our ART FOR CHARITY
PROJECT. The cards sell for $4.75 each and we will donate
$2.00 from every card ordered through this campaign, to the fund
established to buy educational materials for CHILDREN
affected by the war in Liberia.
When you place an order, please indicate your wish
to support Veronica's efforts by entering "VERONICA"
in the appropriate space on the ORDER
FORM. You may also order cards through partners and
associates involved in this particular effort.
